This is the Society’s oldest book series, having been founded in 1958.
Memoirs are definitive treatments of their subjects by acknowledged experts in their field. They can be edited collections of papers, or they can be written by a single group of authors. We will also consider papers on important topics that are too long for a journal. Such papers must satisfy economic as well as scientific criteria – papers that represent unconventional viewpoints are unlikely to sell well.
A list of the titles in this series is available on the publications catalogues page.
Memoirs can be purchased through the online bookshop, online booksellers and the major library suppliers in North America.
Memoirs in the Lyell Collection
Memoirs are included in the
Lyell Collection, the Geological Society’s online collection of all key content published since 1845. The Collection features Memoirs from Volume 1, with all new volumes being posted slightly ahead of their print publication date.
Abstracts, PDFs and references have been captured up to and including Volume 21, with later volumes also including full text HTML. The Collection benefits from full electronic functionality, including active reference linking.
