The South East Group of the Geological Society provides a focus for Fellows of the Society, including professional and student geologists and geoscientists, within a large region – extending from London to the south coast, and from Guildford in the west to the east coast of Kent.
We aim to hold eight or so meetings each year, generally covering topics in the fields of engineering geology, hydrogeology and the geological aspects of environmental engineering. As such, we hold some joint meetings with specialist groups within the Society (e.g. the Engineering Group), as well as with the Chartered Institution of Water and Environmental Management (CIWEM) and the regional technical group of the Institution of Civil Engineers (ICE).
All our meetings count towards continuing professional development (CPD). If you have any suggestions for topics you would like to see covered, or if you would be willing to present an evening lecture, please contact Sarah Cook.
We hold a dedicated young geoscientist evening every September, alternating between a Chartership workshop and a young geoscientist competition. The Chartership evening is to assist members with the Chartership process, with the possibility of meeting scrutineers, recently chartered geologists and other members currently working towards Chartership.
In addition to the evening meetings, we hold a number of daytime field meetings in the summer months at locations within the region.
If you would like more information about the Society, or the South East Regional Group, please feel free to contact our Chair or Secretary – details to the right.
