Explanatory text to accompany the whole-rock geochemical data tables
The supplementary information to Sweden: Lithotectonic Framework, Tectonic Evolution and Mineral Resources (Geological Society of London Memoir 50) comprises whole-rock geochemical data from Proterozoic and Neoarchean magmatic rocks in the Fennoscandian Shield, Sweden. The data used to generate diagrams in this Memoir, showing the composition and bearing on the tectonic affinity of different magmatic suites in different lithotectonic units, have been extracted from this data bank. Information concerning the generation of the diagrams is provided in Chapter 1 (Stephens 2020).
The data files are compiled according to lithotectonic unit inside the different orogenic systems or according to magmatic province in the part of the shield not affected by orogeny (see Chapter 1, Stephens 2020). For this reason, the files correspond to different chapters in this Memoir (Table S1). Each file contains compilations in separate data sheets for magmatic suites of different age; where relevant, volcanic rocks are separated from intrusive varieties in a particular suite (Table S1). The link between particular data sheets and figures in the text is also shown in the table.
Virtually all the data were extracted during 2013−14 from the whole-rock geochemical database stationed at the Geological Survey of Sweden, currently referred to as the BLAB KEMI and, at the time of data extraction, the LIKE database. A sample identification number, location coordinates expressed using the National SWEREF 99 TM coordinate system, values for oxides, S and C in wt %, and values for all other elements in ppm by weight are listed for each sample in each data sheet. A blank under an element or oxide indicates that no value has been obtained.
Bearing in mind that the data listed in this database were generated at different times in different laboratories, there is significant variation in their quality and no attempt to filter the data in this context has been carried out. Editing work has involved only the reduction in the number of decimals in some cases. More information addressing the character of each sample and the analytical procedures employed are included in the BLAB KEMI database at the Geological Survey of Sweden. Some whole-rock geochemical data for samples not included in this database at the time of compilation have been added by the data compiler for each chapter, who is also one of the authors. These data rows lack a sample identification number (LIKE_sample ID).
Most of the information compiled in the BLAB KEMI (LIKE) database at the Geological Survey of Sweden comprises data acquired during geological mapping activities and research work by employees at the survey. However, the database also includes material generated during research studies by other workers and either extracted from geoscientific publications or donated to the Geological Survey by the particular worker. Because the Geological Survey of Sweden is not the copyright holder of all the data, care needs to be taken to ensure that the source of the data is stated correctly.
For this reason, it may be necessary for a user to separately seek permission from copyright holders other than the Geological Survey of Sweden. Users should contact the Geological Survey of Sweden to identify sources prior to use of any of the whole-rock geochemical data. The sample identification number and coordinates provided in each row of raw data in the data tables will help to identify the source. Credit should be given to the Geological Survey of Sweden as the primary source of data and also, if relevant, to the other sources who have contributed to the database.

Correction notice: There was an error concerning the use of RT 90 rather than SWEREF coordinates for some of the rows in the three data tables in the Supplementary material linked to Chapter 11. The coordinates for the rows labelled ‘NONE’ in each of the three catalogues are now presented in the same coordinate system as for all the other data.
