This year we will be following society’s themed year again, and the conference will focus around the ‘Year of Risk’, the following speakers are confirmed to date-

• Professor Iain Stewart (University of Plymouth) – Geological Risk
  Talk title: Faulty Communications: conveying seismic hazard to at-risk publics
  
  Summary: Seismic fault lines present a fatal attraction for human settlement. For millennia we have been lured to grow our villages, then towns and now cities along their traces. The result is that across the globe, countless major population centres now lie within striking distance of historically destructive earthquake sources.  The challenge in these swollen urban targets is how to translate our scientific understanding of the earthquake risk into effective preparedness and improved safety on the ground. With examples from Turkey, Japan and Italy, the talk explores the challenges of communicating major earthquake threats to at-risk communities.

  Talk title: Remote safe acquisition of geological and geotechnical data from both LiDAR and Photogrammetric point-clouds and from both terrestrial and unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) or “Drone” platforms.
