Join us on National Poetry Day to celebrate the publication of Map: Poems After William Smith’s Geological Map of 1815 (Worple Press, 2015).

To celebrate the bicentenary of William Smith’s famous map, over thirty poets have written new poems inspired by William Smith, his revolutionary map and the legacy of geological mapping.  Featuring poems about fossil hunting, field-trips, the Industrial Revolution, fracking, Ancient Egypt,  the Napoleonic Wars and much more, these exciting and vibrant poems present the story of William Smith and his map in moving and surprising ways.

The event will be introduced by the editor Michael McKimm and will include readings from award-winning poets Alison Brackenbury, Phillip Gross, John Freeman and Alyson Hallett.
