We are running a special event for schools on Thursday 13 October at the Geological Society (Burlington House, London). Andrew McKenzie and Emily Crane, hydrogeologists from the British Geological Survey, will lead an interactive workshop focusing on the challenges involved in overseas rural water supply, in contrast to those experienced in the UK.

The event will explore how water resources are discovered and the multiple factors influencing responsible water management, from climate change and contamination issues to competing socio-economic needs.

Year 12-13 (A/AS Level) students would get the most out of this event. Please note that studying A Level geology is not a requirement to attend; these issues involve specialists in many different areas working together, and scientists and geographers are equally welcome.

Registration

Last minute places are now available at this event. To attend please contact Liz Pedley ([email protected]) including how many students you wish to bring, and which subjects they are studying.

Attendance is free of charge for school groups and lunch will be provided, although transport to London is at your own expense.

About Earth Science Week

Earth Science Week

Earth Science Week runs from 8-16 October 2016 with events and activities all over the country on the theme of 'Earth Science in Action'. Last year we ran an event on the Anthropocene, where teams of students discussed whether human influence on the Earth had started a new epoch of geological time. This year's event is part of the Geological Society's programme of themed events for the Year of Water.
