Event details

The Western Regional Group is pleased to welcome Toby Masters who will be discussing methods of offshore site investigation.

Geoquip marine is a leader in offshore site investigation specialising in downhole and seabed sampling of soils, in-situ testing of soils, processing / interpretation of the obtained data and subsequent performance of laboratory testing on soil samples to develop ground models and engineering parameters for geotechnical design. High quality reliable in-situ testing is an integral part of Geoquip’s capability. Reliable direct measurement of the properties of the soils calibrated against laboratory tests results is essential in the economical geotechnical design of offshore wind turbine foundations.

In this presentation, Toby will discuss standard offshore GI testing and provide insight into some non-standard methods of in-situ testing such as Seismic Cone Penetration Testing (SCPT), which is used to develop all important soil stiffness profiles and other in-house modified versions of the Piezocone Penetration Test (PCPT) which have been used to help understand degradation of soil strength under large strains from foundation installation and cyclic loading.

Speaker details

Toby is a Principal Engineer with over 20 years of experience, working at Geoquip Marine in Bristol, a global leading offshore geotechnical site investigation specialist. Toby has worked on a range of UK projects including housing and commercial developments, road and rail infrastructure, while abroad he has worked on iron ore mines, oil/gas platforms and pipelines and offshore windfarms all over the Globe.
