The Geological Society Library is delighted to announce our second annual open day at the Library specifically for our Corporate Affiliate members, with the opportunity to attend one of the Society's prestigious London Lectures.
The Geological Society Library is one of the finest Earth Science libraries in the world. The Library contains over 300,000 volumes of books and serials and 40,000 maps, making it a collection of national importance covering all aspects of the geological sciences, with material which is rare and hard-to-find elsewhere.
There are many Library benefits available to Corporate Affiliates, including borrowing books and maps, accessing databases and the assistance of the Library's experienced staff, who offer a customised service to meet all research needs.

- Attend a prestigious London Lecture
- Network with Earth Science and information professionals
The day is free to attend and includes lunch, as well as an opportunity to view the Library’s newly re-discovered, pristine first edition of William Smith’s 1815 Geological Map of England and Wales.

- 10.45 - 11.15 - Registration and Tea/Coffee
- 11.15 - Tour of the Society’s apartments (including viewing William Smith’s “Map that changed the World”)
- 11.45 - Introduction to the Library and Map Room
- 12.30 - Literature searching in the Geological Society, including use of GeoRef and Geofacets
- 1.00 - Lunch
- 2.00 – Opportunity for hands-on use of GeoRef & Geofacets with Library staff available to assist
- 3.00 - London Lecture: "The hidden colours inside volcanoes” by John Maclennan (University of Cambridge)
