Our 2024 President's Day took place on 12 June 2024 at our Burlington House premises in London.

Our 2024 Annual General Meeting
Our Annual General Meeting (AGM) took place in the morning and was open to all Members of the Society, who were invited to attend in person or online.
During the AGM, the Officers and Geoscientist's Editor-in-Chief presented their reports (including the appointment of a new Editor-in Chief) and the Fellowship formally approved the new Council members elected in the preliminary ballot. In addition, the 2023 Annual Accounts were presented for discussion and Officers and auditors were appointed.
Ruth Allington also welcomed Prof Jon Gluyas, who would step in to the role as President following the day's proceedings.

The afternoon saw our President, Ruth Allington, present our 2024 Awards, Medals and Funds. The winners were all congratulated for their fantastic achievements and contributions to geoscience.

Senior Medallist Lectures
Following the presentation of our 2024 Awards, attendees enjoyed lectures by three recipients of our most prestigious medals.
Professor Emerita Lynne Frostick CBE, University of Hull (Lyell Medal)
Professor Lynne Frostick CBE, Emeritus Professor University of Hull, was awarded the 2024 Lyell Medal. Professor Frostick's many contributions to geoscience range from investigating the evolution of river systems in the East African Rift to innovative technologies in recycling and waste processing, receiving in 2009 the Yorkshire Post's Environmental Champion Award.

Professor David Pyle, University of Oxford (Murchison Medal)
Professor David Pyle, Professor of Earth Sciences at the University of Oxford, was awarded the 2024 Murchison Medal. Professor Pyle is an internationally recognised volcanologist who has made outstanding contributions to understanding volcanic deposits and processes, using pioneering methods to characterise and classify tephra fall deposits and infer erupted volumes.

Professor Trond Helge Torsvik, University of Oslo (Wollaston Medal)
Professor Trond Helge Torsvik, Professor in Geodynamics at the University of Oslo, was awarded the Wollaston Medal - the Society's highest award. Professor Trond is acclaimed as being the first to quantitatively link the large low-velocity seismic structures in the deep mantle with the surface evolution of volcanism in the form of Large Igneous Provinces, one of the most important advances in geosciences over the past two decades.
