Dr Vitor Manuel Ramos Correia
Dr Correia is currently President of the European Federation of Geologists (2012 – 2018). During his presidency he has taken on the major responsibility of a number of EC projects through preparation and delivery including financial control of up to 35 partners per project. He has actively participated in a number of the Geological Society’s scientific meetings in London.
Vitor is a leading environmental geologist in Portugal with particular knowledge and skills in the remediation of contaminated land where he is at the forefront. He is also active in mineral exploration and exploitation, being appointed by the World Bank as an independent evaluator for mineral projects and by UNECE as a member of the Expert group on Resource Classification.
He has published papers on the supply of raw materials looking forward through the Futures 2050 project and the EU observatory. The matter of future materials supply within Europe is a current taxing issue for the profession, melding a balance between the minerals reserves and society’s needs.
