Event details

The Geological Society regards its outreach activities as vital for communicating geoscience to wider society, not least to encourage the general public's better grasp of critical global challenges, but also to inspire a young generation who will need to provide the geoscientists of the future.

Matt Williams (Former Co-Director, SIC (East Anglia) Limited) brings his detailed local interest in engineering geology and passion for raising awareness in the public domain of subterranean conditions and their implications for us all, past, present and future. Taking in history, archaeology and engineering, his thesis is simply that geology drives everything.

In this illustrated talk, Matt will address the disconnect between many residents and their daily physical environment. Using historical and recent aspects of Norwich ground conditions, and sharing examples from his recent activities and books, he will offer suggestions as to how to bring four-dimensional geology alive for people of all ages.
