Event details

Following the success of last year's field trip heading onto the Downs, this year, the South East Regional Group of The Geological Society is heading to the coast to look at the Chalk.

The trip will start at Castle Hill Newhaven and work along a number of stops to Black Rock Marina in Brighton. The group will look at the Chalk stratigraphy, and at Newhaven its interaction with the overlying Palaeogene deposits. Along the cliffs and at Brighton, the group will look at the engineering works that have taken place at Black Rock.

Event leaders

This event will be led by Simon Cook and Matt Cook

Simon Cook is a hydrogeologist with 20 years' experience and particular knowledge of the chalk geology of the South East. He also worked on the engineering site investigation for the Peacehaven waste water treatment works and associated transfer tunnel along the cliffs from Brighton to Peacehaven.

Matt Cook is an engineering geologist with eight years' experience and has extensive knowledge of the engineering works at Black Rock.
