We will begin by describing the Applied Petroleum Geoscience MSc Course at the University of Derby and then move on to outline areas of current geoscience research. Some specific examples will be provided through three short presentations by current MSc students who are approaching the conclusion of their 3-month independent research projects. Each of these projects are being undertaken in collaboration with oil companies and they address specific challenges that help to prepare the students for the world of work.
