Many applied geomorphology projects lead to recommendations for management and engineering mitigation of natural processes, hazards and risk to protect communities and infrastructure. Local casework, practitioners and residents will be consulted in the field and may include  Lewes flood protection,  Pevensey beach PFI, Rye Harbour coastal defences, Canver dunes management, Birling Gap Public Inquiry, Fairlight cliffs potection, and proposed shale gas development.

This module will cover approaches to geohazard risk management including planning and development controls, monitoring and dissemination, engineering schemes, current legislation, guidance and funding mechanisms. Project work will include review and development of risk management plans and development control, and/or engineering mitigation for a site of choice.
