Friends of the Geological Society receive a 40% discount off the List Price of books in the Geological Society of London Special Publications series. This discount does not apply to sale titles.

Corporate Patrons do not receive discounts on publications or subscriptions.

To receive member discount please register on the site and then email us with the details of your membership(s) and memberships number(s). We will add the relevant discount entitlements to your login and inform you when the discounts are live.

Mineralogical Society of America and Mineralogical Society of Great Britain & Ireland members receive discounts on the Geological Society Rock-Forming Minerals series only.

We accept Visa, MasterCard or American Express online. Card payments are processed securely via Stripe.

A confirmation email will be sent within 60 minutes of completion of an order. This email will include a pdf receipt. Please quote the invoice number in all correspondence regarding this order.

Payments are processed by us in GB Pounds (GBP) and will be converted to your local currency by your card company or bank. An international or foreign transaction fee may also be added by the bank or card company.

Please note: No further items can be added to the order and the delivery method cannot be changed after checkout has been completed.

We accept GBP account transfers for offline payments. Please complete the online order form.

Please note that Sale titles must be ordered and paid for on the online bookshop within the sale dates.

Standard overseas postage is by surface mail. 

Parcelforce or DHL delivery rates are available at checkout (up to 30 kilos). If the order is over 30 kilos please contact us for delivery rates.

*The delivery charge for orders dispatched outside Great Britain does not include any applicable import duties, customs fees and taxes due in the recipient country. Please check your country's postal service website for potential import taxes, duties and fees. Please see VAT (Value Added Tax) or import fees / duties.

EU VAT registered companies and institutions: please enter your VAT number in the relevant field during checkout. Please also include your EORI number in the delivery address if you have one.

Customers in Brazil: Please include your CPF (individual) or CNPJ (business) tax ID in the delivery address of your order.

VAT in the UK is 0% on books. The standard UK rate of VAT (20%) will be added automatically to UK orders on stationery (Rite in the Rain products) and rolled maps and charts. Once your delivery address is confirmed at checkout the appropriate VAT will be charged. 

The delivery charge for orders dispatched outside Great Britain does not include any applicable import duties, customs fees, tariffs and taxes due in the recipient country. 

Please note that we have no control over these charges and cannot predict their amount or pay them on your behalf. We recommend that you check with the local customs officials or post office for more information regarding importation taxes/duties that may be applicable to your order. Orders are returned to us if the fees are not paid within the required period.

Whoever your order is addressed to is responsible for all costs associated with the import of the products, and will be required to pay any additional charges to release the goods. If you are ordering products to be delivered to someone else, please make sure that they are aware of this before you order.

EU VAT registered companies and institutions: please email your VAT number (and EORI, if you have one) to the sales department as soon as you place your order. Please include your order reference.

Our warehouse is open 3 days a week. Orders are usually processed and dispatched from our Bath warehouse within 5 working days*. During busy periods (e.g. an online sale) please allow up to 10 working days for dispatch.

*Dispatch times may be extended due to staff absence or office closure (e.g. holidays or Christmas and New Year). Please see our Scheduled Closure Dates below.

A receipt will be sent with your order – it will be inside the parcel or in a “Documents Enclosed” envelope on the outside of the parcel.

Delivery times (from day of dispatch)

UK delivery: 2 to 7 working days by Royal Mail

EU, Europe and Rest of World:

·       Standard surface mail can take 2 to 14 weeks and is not trackable. Parcels are collected from us by Royal Mail, delivered to the relevant country and then enter into your local mail service.

·        If non-standard delivery has been selected: Parcelforce up to 10 working days and DHL up to 5 working days.

Delivery times can be affected by customs clearance.

Customs fees and local taxes may be charged to the recipient before delivery can be made. Please check with your local postal service or customs office if you experience a delay in the delivery of your order. Orders are returned to us if these fees are not paid within the required period.

If your order is being sent to your organization or institution, please check with the mail room/receiver’s policy on customs fees and who is responsible for paying the fees or advise them that you are expecting a parcel from the UK and it is for personal use and not resale.

What should I do if my order does not arrive after the specified time?

Please email us with your order details if your order does not arrive within the specified time and we will investigate further.

From January 2025, Geological Society published books are GPSR compliant. 

We have appointed an authorised representative in the EU Authorised Rep Compliance (ARC) to act on our behalf in the event of any communication with regulatory authorities.

We have also sourced compliance certificates from our printers and completed risk assessments to ensure that our supply chain is safe and compliant.

The quantity on the product is linked to our stock system.

For example, if we have 1 copy of a product in stock you will not be able to increase the quantity to 2 copies.

If your payment is by Visa, MasterCard or AmEx please check that all the card details on the payment screen are correct. Cards can be refused authorisation for several reasons - insufficient funds, a block on foreign or charity transactions or recent suspicious activity on the account. Please contact the card issuer to check if there is a problem.

Order confirmation emails are sent from noreply@geolsoc.org.uk and include a pdf attachment.

Please check your spam/junk mail folder in case the message has been diverted.

If it is not there please email us with the order details to clarify. 

The purchase of a print version of a book does not include access to the online content. All items listed on the online bookshop are physical products (e.g. hardback or paperback books, rolled or folded maps and DVDs) that will be dispatched from our Bath warehouse. 

Pay-per-view content purchased on the Lyell Collection site does not include a printed copy of the book/journal issue/article.

Please email your order to us as trade discount cannot be processed through the online bookshop. The trade discount on Geological Society of London titles is 10%* and our usual postage rates apply. If you order through the online bookshop the full amount will be charged as payment is immediate (the difference will not be refunded).

*Trade discount does not apply to Sale titles or titles distributed by GSL for other publishers. For example these titles should be ordered direct: Mineralogical Society, Wiley-Blackwell, Dunedin Academic Press, British Geological Survey, Collins Press, Worple Press, Granta, Cambridge University Press, EAGE, ICE, World Scientific Publishing, Franschhoek Press, Rite in the Rain or Whittles.

Online sales are run throughout the year and items can be viewed in the online bookshop during the sale.

Sale titles must be ordered and paid for online within the sale dates to obtain the reduced price.

You do not have to be a GSL member to purchase items at the sale rate.

Products with no ‘Add to Cart’ button are unavailable for one of the following reasons which will be visible in the product listing:

• Coming soon / Not Yet Published – The title will be available to buy as soon as we receive stocks into our warehouse. 

• Out of Stock – The title is on order from the publisher or reprinting. If you require an out of stock item please email the sales department with the details and we will try to provide a date for availability.

• Out of Print – The title is no longer available. If an alternative edition is available there will be a link in the product description. We do not hold stocks of out of print titles - please try a second-hand bookseller for a print copy. For GSL titles you may be able to view content of the title electronically via the Lyell Collection.

• We no longer distribute this title – please contact the publisher direct to place an order.

Supplementary material may include large data sets, bibliographic data or image files that could not be published within the book or journal issue.

Selected eBooks are available for purchase in ePub format from the Lyell Collection website.

The purchased eBook file should be downloaded and saved locally within 10 days of purchase. (After 10 days the file will no longer be available for download.)

Pay-per-view content purchased on the Lyell Collection site does not include a printed copy of the book / journal issue / article.
