Joint meeting with CIWEM & ICE

This evening, we welcome Terry Fuller, Chief Executive of CIWEM, together with representatives from JBA Consulting, to help us better understand the processes that have become known as "fracking" and the consequential planning and environmental issues arising therefrom.

Terry Fuller will open the event with a presentation based on the recently published review of the implications of shale gas on the water environment.  The review looks at the latest publicly available evidence to assess the likely viability, scale and timing of shale gas exploitation in the UK.

It then considers if an industry of any significant scale were to develop, what the implications of hydraulic fracturing of shale would be for water resources, water treatment and the water environment. The review also considers the suitability of the current and expected future regulatory requirements for mitigating the industry’s potential impacts on the environment.

Speakers from JBA Consulting will then discuss the environmental, planning and legal framework for Shale Gas Exploration in the UK.  They will draw on their recent experiences, including the Kirby Misperton KM8 planning application and five other fracking related planning applications considered by Lancashire County Council, as well as their engagement by Lancashire County Council (the Mineral Planning Authority) as expert witnesses at the Cuadrilla co-joined six week Public Inquiry for Preston New Road and Roseacre Wood.
