As we enter 2017, the Geological Society's Year of Risk, we are delighted to welcome Dr Chris Menkiti to our first meeting of the year to give us an insight into the risks and issues associated with tunnelling activities in dense urban environments.
Tunnelling projects are associated with a wide range of geotechnical risks. Successful projects involve close collaborative working and good communication between the Client/Owner, the Designer and the Contractor to identify and deal with the risks involved.
Using a backdrop of the Crossrail Project and other interesting international case histories, Dr Menkiti will discuss some of the geotechnical risks associated with such projects and how they are usually mitigated or managed. Important lessons learned will be drawn out and successful strategies highlighted.
