North West: Compaction and how it works

When Engineers are first asked to supervise compaction works, they often know little more about it than that famous curve that you find in text books. 

In this talk, Malcolm Henderson hopes to banish the “dark art” associated with the subject and leave you with an understanding of the principles and terminology of the process, the testing that is routinely used and a clear idea of the methods an Engineer should employ to control a job.

Following this, he will explain how some interesting new plant operates.

Speaker

Malcolm Henderson graduated from Durham University and then worked for 13 years as an Opencast Geologist, initially with the National Coal Board and latterly with British Coal.  He then joined Wardell Armstrong’s Leigh office where he has worked extensively in ground engineering and landfill construction projects.

Much of his time here has been associated with the design and construction quality assurance (CQA) of a variety of most landfill types. From these works he has extensive experience with the compaction techniques that are applied to a wide range of material types, in a wide variety of weathers.  Find out more in the flyer.
