Given the wealth of geological research emanating from the Japanese Islands, it is surprising that this is the first large format English language overview for 25 years of the remarkable insights which have been obtained during this time.

The Geology of Japan has many authors — more than 70 – and brings up-to-date research into the geology of an area. It is the first comprehensive English-language survey of the geology of Japan for 25 years...In general, this book appears a most comprehensive and useful work, and I hope it will be much borrowed from the Severnside branch library.
